The Melon (Cucumis melo) is a creeping herbaceous plant cultivated for its large, sweet fruit, especially appreciated in summer for its high water content. The plant features soft hairy stems that grow along the ground, with yellow flowers that are either masculine, feminine, or hermaphroditic. This species is extraordinarily polymorphic in both fruit type and flesh color. The fruit color ranges from white to very dark green, as well as yellow and spotted varieties (notably the Spanish ‘Piel de Sapo’). The shape can vary from spherical to elliptical, with weights varying from 400 g to 10 Kg depending on the variety and cultivation conditions.
